Is found in shallow seawater, sandy mud and rock pools 1

Perianth absent, flowers enclosed by leaves


Perennial, marine, submerged herb 1

Distinguishing characteristics (within family/genus):

This is the only species in the family that occurs in Victoria. It has alternate leaves and unisexual flowers (male and female flowers are separate) 1
