Sand dune stabiliser- found on bare sandy soils. Occurs occasionally on inland soils on river banks and streams 1

Flower Description:

Upper spikes male, lower spikes female and covered by yellow brown glumes

Habit:

Small, sedge to 50 cm high with creeping underground rhizomes 2

Stems are yellow-brown, hidden by leaves which sheath the stem. Leaves are often curled at the tip. This plant is often grazed by wallabies and wombats 1
