Perennial herb to 30 cm tall ²

Distinguishing characteristics (within family/genus):

This species is distinguished from G. tetragynus by having hairs on the stem that spread horizontally rather than press against the stem. Flowers of G. tetragynus are pinkish red. Gonocarpus micranthus is much smaller (to 10 cm tall) with stems that root at the nodes ¹
