Distinguishing characteristics (within family/genus):
Fronds are simple or lobed, sori are oval or round and prominent on either side of the midrib. This species differs from Microsorum pustulatum by having a dark green lamina and leaf scales on the rhizome that are persistent and stand away from the surface of the rhizome
