Edges of streams and swamps, common along Darby River ¹

Flower Description:

Absent or reduced to bristles ²

Habit:

Tall erect herb to 2.5 m ²

Distinguishing characteristics (within family/genus):

This species has two cylindrical spikes per stem. The male cluster is above the female. Typha domingensis may also be present however these two species are very difficult to distinguish from one another without critical examination of the flowers ²
